Stormy Skies Force Early End to GIR Plus Festival

Illustration of Bad weather calls off GIR Plus Festival

Severe weather conditions have led to the unexpected end of the Primary Schools GIR Plus Festival at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva, earlier today.

Oripa Lee, the coordinator for the Fiji Rugby Union’s Get Into Rugby Plus program, emphasized that the safety of the students was the top priority in this decision, calling off the event was necessary due to the adverse weather.

Despite this disappointment, Lee highlighted a positive note by stating that each participating school received a trophy. This gesture aimed to recognize the efforts of all schools, including those from rural areas that had traveled significant distances to attend the event. Before leaving the grounds, every school had the opportunity to play at least one match and took home a trophy.

This situation, though not ideal, showcases a commitment to valuing participation and recognizing the hard work of all involved, fostering a spirit of unity and sportsmanship among the students.

In summary, while the abrupt conclusion of the GIR Plus Festival due to bad weather was unfortunate, the recognition given to all schools reflects a positive approach to ensuring that every participant feels valued and celebrated.
