Burnt cane is a crucial element impacting mill efficiency and the overall sugar output. The Fiji Sugar Corporation Ltd (FSC) emphasized this point while sharing an update on the performance of its three sugar mills—Lautoka, Rarawai, and Labasa—as the 2024 crushing season unfolds. The FSC is urging farmers to implement clean cultivation methods and avoid burning cane. They stated, “Burning before harvesting affects juice quality, raises processing expenses, and reduces sugar yields, ultimately harming both farmer and industry profitability.” The FSC is calling on farmers to deliver green and clean cane.
