ANZ Fiji has issued a crucial reminder to its customers throughout the Pacific region to remain alert to potential scams, especially as the holiday season approaches. According to Rabih Yazbek, the country head of ANZ Fiji, this busy time of year often presents ideal opportunities for scammers looking to exploit individuals distracted by festive preparations.
“Scammers frequently target busy periods like Christmas and New Year, preying on the inattentiveness of individuals during these times,” Mr. Yazbek explained. He emphasized the importance of trusting one’s instincts before sharing personal information, clicking on unfamiliar links, or making any online transactions.
To enhance customer awareness about scams and fraud, ANZ Fiji is committed to educating its clientele. Earlier this year, the bank hosted Eli Hirschauge, head of Information Security, to conduct sessions focused on cyber risks and fraud prevention strategies. These informative discussions reached a wide audience, including customers, government agencies, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, and local media representatives.
“It is vital to stay updated on the latest scam strategies as they are continuously evolving. Awareness is our most effective defense against these threats,” Mr. Yazbek said. He urged customers to regularly check their bank statements and online banking apps, advising them to report any suspicious activities promptly to mitigate potential losses.
He reminded customers that ANZ will never request personal information through email or text message and encouraged vigilance against anything that feels unusual.
This proactive approach by ANZ Fiji not only aims to protect customers from scams but also fosters a more secure banking environment as holiday festivities approach.
In summary, as the busy holiday season nears, increased awareness and education on scams can empower customers to safeguard their financial information effectively. With ongoing support from institutions like ANZ Fiji, individuals can take steps to protect themselves and thrive in a secure banking atmosphere.
