Stakeholders Unite for Sustainable Mahogany Harvesting in Fiji

Trustees from six mahogany plantations in Vanua Levu convened with representatives from the Ministry of Forestry, Fiji Mahogany Trust, Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, and the iTaukei Land Trust Board in Labasa.

The purpose of the consultations was to promote transparency and involve stakeholders ahead of the commencement of harvesting operations. Uraia Rainima, the Divisional Commissioner for the Northern Division, emphasized the significance of this event for landowners, linking it to the Government’s National Development Plan.

Iowane Naiveli, the Chairman of Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, underscored the importance of effective governance and the potential for revenue generation from these operations.

The trustees involved represent plantations located in Navonu, Saqani, Seaqaqa, Dreketi, Korotari, and Wainunu.
