The Assistant Minister for Health, Penioni Ravunawa, has announced an important collaboration between St John Fiji and Australia’s Racer Group, which aims to enhance pre-hospital emergency care throughout Fiji. In his remarks, Ravunawa emphasized the significance of St John’s vision for emergency medical services, asserting that it is crucial for enabling every Fijian to receive essential, life-saving care during critical moments, no matter their location.

Ravunawa pointed out the longstanding challenge of maintaining a dependable national ambulance fleet, a concern that this innovative revenue-sharing agreement seeks to remedy. Under the terms of this partnership, Racer Group will oversee fleet operations while St John retains full authority over clinical care and dispatch, prioritizing patient safety above all else. He highlighted that 50 percent of the revenue generated from the contract will be reinvested into the partnership, thereby supporting the development of a reliable, safe, and well-maintained ambulance fleet with reduced downtime.

“This partnership, under the new revenue-sharing arrangement, will actualize a sophisticated fleet management model,” Ravunawa stated.

Meanwhile, St John Fiji National Council Chairman, Dr. Ratu Vereniki Raiwalui, reaffirmed the organization’s mission to serve humanity, ensuring that no Fijian is left without medical assistance during emergencies. He also noted that this collaboration aligns with St John’s strategic goals, enhancing clinical excellence, building community resilience, and ensuring long-term sustainability. Through this partnership, St John plans to expand its services and train more individuals in crucial life-saving first aid techniques.

This partnership marks a positive development in emergency medical services in Fiji, promising to improve response times and care quality significantly. The commitment to training more first responders within the community also suggests a proactive approach to building resilience in health care, fostering a more prepared and safer environment for all Fijian citizens.
