The South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) will host its flagship event, the SPX Annual Awards 2025, in November, marking the first celebration of its kind since the COVID-19 pandemic. This prestigious event aims to honor excellence in financial reporting and the growth of capital markets, reinforcing SPX’s commitment to recognizing outstanding corporate reporting practices.
This year’s awards will feature an enhanced framework for evaluating submissions that emphasizes best practices in financial reporting, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures, and gender reporting. Notably, SPX is expanding its reach by including not only its listed entities but also unlisted organizations, thereby encouraging excellence across a broader spectrum of the economy.
SPX chairperson Nitin Gandhi highlighted the awards as a vital benchmark for quality in corporate reporting and market involvement, aimed at inspiring confidence and raising standards within the financial ecosystem. The annual awards are intended to foster transparency, accountability, and a culture of excellence among market participants.
CEO Sheraj Obeyesekere echoed the sentiment, noting the ongoing evolution of annual reporting towards greater stakeholder engagement. The intention is to showcase organizations that excel in their reporting responsibilities, reflecting a broader commitment to building a robust and trusted capital market.
The 2025 edition of the awards will also feature an expanded Stock Market Excellence segment, honoring a variety of market participants, including stockbroker firms and institutional investors. The judging panel will be chaired by Lorraine Seeto, a respected figure in the capital markets, who will lead a panel of experts dedicated to promoting high standards in corporate reporting.
As the SPX prepares for this significant event, the atmosphere is filled with optimism. The awards not only serve to recognize current excellence but also aim to set the stage for future advancements in market practices, encouraging greater participation and engagement from local businesses.
With the backdrop of various positive developments in 2024, including a record in dividends and increased investor participation, the SPX Annual Awards 2025 represents a hopeful step towards continued growth and success in Fiji’s capital market.
