Members of the South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) in the Tailevu and Rewa provinces, who consider Nausori their hometown, now have improved access to services at the newly relocated SPBD Nausori Centre. The branch, which caters exclusively to women micro-entrepreneurs, opened its doors in June 2024, relocating across the street to better serve its members from surrounding villages, who previously had to travel to Suva.
The new office was inaugurated in a ceremony led by Reverend Savenaca Nakeke, the divisional superintendent of the Methodist Church of Fiji. SPBD branch manager Salanieta Coroinagasau shared that the previous location had been in use for two years before the move, as the building’s new owner planned renovations. This change was necessary to continue providing service and to enhance accessibility for members, many of whom faced difficulties with the stairs at their old location.
“We are grateful for this new office, which is conveniently situated right beside the road and allows our members to enter without climbing any stairs,” Coroinagasau explained. Additionally, the new office space is larger and more welcoming, accommodating the growth of SPBD’s membership.
During the ceremony, Rev. Nakeke highlighted the paradox of Fiji’s abundant resources—its people and land—amidst ongoing poverty. He emphasized the need for opportunities that empower Fijian women to utilize their skills and leverage their land to produce quality goods and services, reinforcing SPBD’s mission to bridge the financial gap for those wanting to start their businesses.
SPBD managing director Lorraine Seeto noted that the move from 6 Ross Road to 14 Ross Road signifies not just an address change but a commitment to the transformation and modernization of Nausori. “This progress reflects a brighter future for Nausori and its people,” Seeto stated. She pointed out that the organization now operates 89 centers through its Nausori branch, supported by five dedicated staff members.
This relocation marks a positive step forward for SPBD and the community it serves, underscoring the ongoing commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs in Fiji.
