Spain Clinches WXV 3 Title in Thrilling Finale

Spain clinched the WXV 3 title and secured qualification for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 with a tense 10-8 win over Vodafone Fijiana in the United Arab Emirates. Fijiana’s full-back Luisa Tisolo had a chance to equalize and potentially hand the title to Samoa with a final kick, but her conversion attempt went wide, igniting celebrations among the Spanish team.

Samoa, having earned a spot in the World Cup for the first time since 2014, achieved this by defeating Madagascar 46-15, solidifying their place in the tournament.

In a strong finish to their inaugural tournament, the Netherlands also celebrated, achieving a bonus-point victory of 33-3 against Hong Kong China, finishing in third place.

In the match between Samoa and Madagascar, the underdog African team initially took the lead through Claudia Rasoarimalala’s early try. However, Samoa quickly equalized with Cassie Siataga’s try and took control despite facing a temporary disadvantage due to yellow cards shown to Machiko Silila F Fepuleai and Angelica Uila. Samoa widened their lead with a series of tries, including two in the second half from Denis Aiolupotea and Sydney Niupulusu, before scoring twice more to secure a convincing win.

Against Hong Kong China, the Netherlands delivered an impressive performance despite knowing their World Cup hopes were over. They got off to a strong start with Linneke Gevers scoring the first try. A series of penalties and a third try from Anouk Veerkamp solidified their leading position, concluding the match with a final score that highlighted their capabilities.

In the final match, Fiji took an early lead with a penalty from Tisolo, however, Spain responded with pressure and managed to secure points through a try from Alba Capell. As the tension mounted, a late penalty from Zahia Perez proved pivotal, allowing Spain to hold onto their lead as Fijiana attempted a comeback that ultimately fell short.
