The Uso Tasi rugby team from the Solomon Islands has achieved a significant milestone by qualifying for the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s. Their journey to the prestigious tournament reached a thrilling climax over the weekend when they secured a narrow 19-15 victory against Yalovata Spearhead in the final match of the Super 7s tournament, held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

With only seven spots available for top teams, Uso Tasi now joins prominent competitors such as Wardens, Dominion Brothers, Ravuka Sharks, Devo Babas, Police Blue, and Yaro Chiefs in the upcoming Coral Coast 7s. The team’s head coach, Rupeni Caucau, praised the players for their dedication and the unity they exhibited throughout the tournament, emphasizing that confidence and teamwork are key elements to their success.

Caucau expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, especially considering the distance they traveled from home to compete. “The team came from far, a long way from home, and getting a chance to qualify for the Coral Coast 7s is a big achievement for the boys, and I’m proud to be part of their journey,” he stated. He highlighted the importance of believing in oneself and working effectively as a unit.

The club owner, Carlwyn Tengemoana, who is also a former student of Marist Brothers High School, echoed these sentiments. He noted the significance of participating in a high-caliber tournament like the Coral Coast 7s, as it not only showcases their talent but also offers invaluable experience and exposure for the players.

Fans are encouraged to support Uso Tasi as they prepare for the tournament scheduled for January 15-17, 2026, at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. This upcoming competition marks a hopeful opportunity for the team to shine on a larger stage, creating excitement and pride within the community and beyond.
