Solomon Islands kicked off their OFC U-19 Men’s Championship campaign with a determined 1-0 win over Vanuatu in Apia today.

Solomon Islands Captain Paul Francis orchestrated the decisive moment in the 17th minute. He navigated through the Vanuatu defense and delivered a precise through pass to James Laena, who then blasted a powerful shot past goalkeeper Joseph Nakou.

The victory provides Solomon Islands with an ideal start to their campaign. Vanuatu, on the other hand, will aim to bounce back on match day two when they face Tahiti.

Next, Solomon Islands are set to meet Fiji on Monday.
