The Solomon Islands showcased an impressive performance in their match against Tonga during the OFC Women’s Nations Cup, securing a resounding 5-0 victory. From the beginning, the Solomon Islands took control, with Lorina Solosaia and Madeline Arukau dazzling the Tongan defense with their remarkable football skills.

Despite being smaller in stature, Arukau proved to be a standout player, scoring the opening goal just eight minutes into the match. Captain Ileen Pegi also shone brightly, netting two goals in the first half, a result of the effective combination between her and her teammates. By halftime, the Solomon Islands had established a commanding 3-0 lead.

Though Tonga struggled to neutralize the Solomon Islands’ relentless attacks, substitute Jemina David added to the scoreline, while Arukau secured her second goal. Tonga’s young team made efforts to learn from the experience, with Captain Lositika Feke expressing pride in their growth and determination to improve despite the score.

This victory propels the Solomon Islands into the semifinals, reflecting their growing prowess on the international stage. In a similar vein to their earlier match against Tahiti, where they also displayed dominance, this match highlights the team’s potential and strength as they continue through the tournament.

As women’s football gains momentum in the Oceania region, there remains hope and enthusiasm for the future of the sport, with teams like the Solomon Islands leading the way.
