The Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa recently made a significant contribution to Project Bula Mai by donating $20,000, aimed at fulfilling its corporate social responsibility. The official handover of the cheque took place at the resort on December 2.
This generous donation coincides with a Style Fiji fashion show held the previous weekend, which showcased work from nine local designers. The proceeds from this event will be combined with Sofitel’s donation and forwarded to the Fiji Cancer Society, the designated charity for Style Fiji.
Vincent Macquet, the area general manager of Sofitel, expressed pride in the long-standing partnership with Style Fiji, recognizing the exceptional efforts made by the organization over the years. He stated that beyond their usual support behind the scenes, this year’s contribution aimed to make a tangible impact on the local community.
Marlene Vuniwaqa, co-founder of Project Bula Mai, emphasized how Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa has consistently increased its sponsorship each year, highlighting the crucial role that corporate support plays in their fundraising efforts. With approximately 380 attendees at the recent show, she noted the challenges of securing cash sponsorships, underscoring Sofitel’s unique commitment.
By directing these funds straight to the Fiji Cancer Society, the partnership between the resort and the charity illustrates a dedicated effort to aid in the fight against cancer while fostering local talent through fashion and entertainment.
Overall, this collaboration showcases the power of community engagement and corporate responsibility, reminding us that through collective efforts, positive change is possible. Such initiatives serve not only to raise awareness about critical health issues but also to strengthen local networks and support systems.
