Soccer development is encountering serious obstacles as fewer businesses are willing to support the sport’s growth, according to Mohammed Hussain, the coach of Suva.
Hussain noted that districts are struggling to obtain financial backing from companies for the ongoing four-day inter-district primary schools competition in Labasa. He remarked, “There are fewer sponsors when it comes to supporting primary school sports and development.”
In a recent interview, he explained that taking part in events like the inter-district competition entails significant financial requirements. “Finding sponsorship for the four-day event has been challenging. Funds are necessary for accommodations and various other costs,” he stated.
This issue has been a hurdle for teams as they prepare for the competition. He mentioned that a local school in Labasa took the initiative to provide lodging for the participants. “Some of the boys come from low-income families, so we need to assist them,” he added.
The competition is set to conclude tomorrow.
