The Parramatta Eels have announced the immediate release of winger Maika Sivo from the final years of his contract.
The Fijian player has faced speculation regarding his future in recent times following a challenging 2024 season. While Sivo has maintained an impressive try-scoring record, concerns about his defensive skills led to him being sidelined from the first-grade team during the season.
With these ongoing issues, the Eels have confirmed Sivo’s release, allowing him to pursue opportunities at another club, though his next destination remains uncertain.
“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Maika, his partner Korina, and his family for their time with us. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavors, both in rugby league and beyond,” stated Mark O’Neill, Parramatta’s general manager of football.
Sivo leaves the Eels with an outstanding try-scoring record, having scored 104 tries in 115 games. Additionally, he has represented Fiji in 12 Test matches since joining the club in 2019.
Sivo’s departure marks the second significant release for the Eels this off-season, following Reagan Campbell-Gillard’s exit to the Gold Coast Titans.
The Eels have bolstered their squad by signing Zac Lomax for 2025, along with backs Joash Papalii and Jordan Samrani. They have also been reported to be pursuing Blake Wilson and Josh Addo-Carr as potential new wing players.
