Fiji’s Sireli Maqala, a centre for Bayonne, is currently making waves in the French Top 14 league as he leads the Top Try Scorers chart with an impressive nine tries in just twelve matches. This achievement comes shortly after his triumph as a gold medalist in the 2021 Olympic Games, where he showcased his tremendous talent in rugby sevens.

Maqala has outshone players like Lyon scrum-half Baptiste Couilloud, who trails him with eight tries this season. Notably, he stands as the only Fijian player in the top ten scorers, highlighting his significant impact in the league.

Bayonne is currently performing well in the competition, sitting fourth on the league table with a total of 34 points. Bordeaux leads the rankings with 41 points, followed closely by Toulouse, also with 41 but with a lower point difference, while Toulon occupies the third position with 37 points.

This growing recognition of Maqala not only reflects his personal success but also serves as a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes from Fiji and beyond. His performance can be seen as a testament to the potential of Fijian rugby players on the international stage, providing a hopeful narrative for future talents emerging from the region.
