Kaiviti Silktails’ technical advisor, Joey Saukuru, has emphasized the importance of self-belief and consistency in shaping the club’s development strategy as they gear up for another challenging 26-round season. As the team prepares, Saukuru highlights the unique dynamics at play, combining some returning players with a fresh influx of young talent who are set to experience a full-length competition for the first time.

Saukuru acknowledges the challenge that lies ahead for these newcomers, noting that the experience of participating in 26 rounds of rugby league is unlike anything else available to young players in Fiji. He stressed that mental strength will be just as crucial as physical preparation. “A lot of these boys are experiencing 26 rounds of football for the first time. No other kid in Fiji is playing 26 rounds of rugby or rugby league,” he remarked.

With this in mind, the Silktails are focusing their efforts not just on tactical training and conditioning, but also on fostering a strong belief in their players’ abilities and maintaining high standards throughout the season. “As a group, consistency and self-belief are our biggest focus,” Saukuru stated.

As the Silktails solidify their role as Fiji’s premier rugby league development pathway, their commitment to mental resilience and long-term player growth reflects the club’s broader mission. They aim not only to compete but also to thrive throughout a full professional season. The team will launch into their ninth week of pre-season preparations tomorrow and is set to face the Panthers in their inaugural match on March 7 in Sydney.

This season presents a significant opportunity for the Silktails, as they nurture young talent and build a strong foundation for future success in the sport.
