A man has been arrested and charged by police in Rakiraki for the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl in broad daylight in a village in the Ra region. The incident occurred last week when the suspect allegedly lured the child with the promise of picking mangoes from a nearby tree.
Fortunately, the girl’s brother witnessed the disturbing act and quickly raised the alarm, which led to the victim’s mother reporting the incident to the authorities. Prompt action followed, and the 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect was brought before the Tavua Magistrates Court, where he has been remanded until January 2, 2024.
This incident highlights the importance of vigilance in communities and the critical role that quick actions can play in preventing further harm. Fortunately, the brother’s bravery in alerting others helped ensure the perpetrator was apprehended quickly. It serves as a reminder of the need for open discussions about child safety and the importance of looking out for one another in our communities.
In closing, it’s hopeful that justice will be served, and the little girl and her family will receive the support they need during this difficult time.
