Weather Bulletin

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30 AM on Thursday, February 27, 2025

Alright folks, brace yourselves! A STRONG WIND WARNING is in effect for Kadavu and its smaller island pals. If you thought your hair had a mind of its own, just wait until you step outside today!

We’re also ringing the alarm for a HEAVY RAIN WARNING across the whole of Fiji. So, grab your umbrellas — the ones still intact from last season — because we’re expecting quite the downpour.

Let’s break down the shenanigans from Tropical Cyclone Seru, currently cozied up to the southwest of Fiji. It’s heading southeast and it seems to enjoy a good cloud party, bringing a trough of low pressure and plenty of rain to our lovely islands. There’s a friendly north to northeast wind flow as the classic Fijian weather flexes its muscles.

Forecast until midnight tonight for the Fiji group:
For Kadavu and nearby small islands: Hold onto your hats, because the winds are ramping up to a breezy 45 km/hr, with gusts that might just make you rethink your hairstyle preferences—up to 65 km/hr. Expect some cloudy periods and showers, especially in the afternoons and evenings, with the potential for isolated heavy falls.

In the wider regions, prepare for cloudy spells with a side of showers, which will also turn into rain as the day progresses. Yes, we’re going full rain mode. Thunderstorms may decide to crash the party too—talk about a dramatic entrance!

The sea? It’s moderate to rough, so maybe skip the sailboat for today.

Now, looking ahead to your Friday: It’s more of the same with occasional rain, heavy at times, and a smattering of thunderstorms—let’s just say Mother Nature is in high spirits!

Breaking it down further for the signature spots:
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect cloudy moments with showers that seem to be auditioning for a heavy rain role. Thunderstorms might want the spotlight too.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Cloudiness will keep you company, with showers that are gearing up to party like there’s no tomorrow—rain, that is!

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Cloudy vibes will prevail, with showers increasing in frequency, adding to the cozy ambiance.

For Tavua/Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca, Labasa, Savusavu, Lau/Lomaiviti: Each area is in for its dose of cloudy periods and showers that are assembling for rain and possible thunderstorms—because who doesn’t love a good weather drama?

And last but not least, Rotuma: The winds are sneaking in from the northeast, bringing cloudy periods and some showers, topped off with moderate to rough seas.

So, the weather’s feeling a little moody today, but that just means more reason to enjoy a cozy day inside! Keep those rain boots and umbrellas at the ready!
