Weather Update

Issued from the Weather Wizards at the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi, at 7:30pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Hold onto your hats, folks, because a STRONG WIND WARNING is being issued for Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti Group, Kadavu, and their smaller island companions! And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll want to grab an umbrella, as a HEAVY RAIN WARNING is now in effect for absolutely everyone in Fiji. Yep, you heard that right – bring out the rain gear, it’s about to get soggy!

Here’s the scoop: Tropical Cyclone Seru, a mischievous Category 2 cyclone, is chilling to the west of Fiji and is deciding to take a slow stroll southeast. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure (no, not a sad excuse for a couch) is hanging out to the south, sending in a breezy north to northwest wind flow. It’s like nature’s way of reminding us who’s really in charge.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow:
Expect cloudy skies with sporadic showers dancing over the Western and Northern Divisions, including Kadavu and the Southern Lau Group. And don’t be surprised if those showers decide to throw a party in the afternoon or evening—sometimes they just can’t help but get a little heavy.

From tomorrow onward, the showers will step up their game, transforming into frequent rain. Elsewhere, expect clouds to hang around with some afternoon and evening drizzles, complete with the chance of an isolated thunderous explosion (a.k.a. thunderstorms). Occasional rain should kick in later tomorrow, bringing you all the moisture you didn’t ask for.

And speaking of rain, here’s what you can look forward to on Friday: it’s going to rain – possibly heavy at times – and throw in a few thunderstorms for good measure. It’s a day for wellies and possibly some indoor hobbies!

Now, let’s break it down for specific areas:

– **Navua / Suva / Nausori**: You’ll be living the cloudy life with chances of showers in the afternoon or evening; those thunderstorms might want to drop by too. More occasional rain is expected to crash the party later tomorrow.

– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba**: A cocktail of cloudy periods mixed with some showers, which will become frequent from tomorrow. Juice those rain dances while you can.

– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: Cloudiness will take center stage, with closely-following showers, which ups the ante to frequent rainfall starting tomorrow.

– **Tavua/Rakiraki**: Expect a cloudy reality with those pesky afternoon/evening showers, plus a sprinkle of isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms joining the mix. Occasional rain later tomorrow will be added for flavor.

– **Yasawa/Mamanuca Group**: Strong winds will prance around at speeds up to 55 km/hr, with gusts playing a game of tag, reaching up to 80 km/hr! Cloudy periods with showers will strut in too, turning into rain soon.

– **Labasa and Savusavu**: You’re in for some cloudy days with those recurring showers that can’t seem to stop. Expect them to kick it up a notch and become frequent tomorrow.

– **Lau/Lomaiviti**: Strong northerly winds will keep you on your toes, reaching speeds of 55 km/hr with gusts up to 80 km/hr! Oh, and can’t forget the showers and thunderstorms. Quite an action-packed forecast!

– **Kadavu**: Cloudy periods and the usual suspects—afternoon or evening showers and a side of isolated heavy falls, plus occasional rain coming into play later tomorrow.

– **Rotuma**: A moist northerly breeze keeps things feeling fresh. Expect cloudy periods with some showers and winds that seem to have something to say about it.

Stay safe out there, and may your rain boots be sturdy!
