Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30pm on Monday, May 12, 2025

Hold onto your hats, folks! A STRONG WIND WARNING is still in effect for the Northern Division, Kadavu, and those cheeky smaller islands nearby, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. And if you’re planning to splash about, a HEAVY RAIN ALERT persists in the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups – Mother Nature isn’t done showering us with gifts yet!

Here’s the scoop: A stubborn trough of low pressure has decided to camp northeast of Fiji, bringing clouds and rain along for the ride, although it’s finally starting to find its way out of the neighborhood.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for our beautiful Fiji group:

Today:
Expect those pesky northwesterly to southerly winds to whip up to 55km/h and gusts reaching 65km/h over Kadavu, the nearby smaller islands, the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. Hold on tight to your umbrellas – it’s going to get gusty! Other areas will face moderate to fresh southerly winds, which might give a gentle nudge at times. The seas will be rough, so if you’re planning to take a dip, maybe consider a kiddie pool instead!

Expect sporadic rain, heavy at times, and the occasional thunderstorm over the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. But don’t worry, the rain should ease into a more polite shower from later tonight. Areas like Nadroga-Navosa, Serua-Namosi, and others will also witness cloudy periods mixed with light showers – a perfect setting for a cozy night in with hot cocoa!

Tomorrow:
Get ready for a change in the wind, as we shift to south-southeast breezes with speeds reaching 45km/h in the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Other places can expect moderate to fresh winds with more gusty moments – it’s a wind concert out there! The forecast still hints at rough seas and cloudy periods, paired with brief showers, particularly in Nadroga-Navosa and its companions.

Overnight temperatures are getting chilly, so snuggle up!

Outlook for Wednesday:
More of the same cloudy periods with brief showers popping up here and there over various regions. But fear not, bright skies are expected apart from the occasional allure of afternoon showers elsewhere. The southeast winds will remain moderate to fresh, while those rough seas will continue to remind us to respect the ocean.
