Weather Bulletin

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45am on Friday the 18th of April 2025

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! It’s time to talk about the weather, and boy, is it feeling a bit dramatic out there. A HEAVY RAIN WARNING is still rolling through the Fiji group with all the subtlety of a toddler’s tantrum. In case your umbrella is feeling a little shy, check out the Special Weather Bulletin from NWFC here: https://www.met.gov.fj/index.php?page=warn1#20014.txt

Situation Update: An active trough of low pressure is throwing a rain party across Fiji, and everyone’s invited! Meanwhile, a nippy southwest to northerly wind is breezing through like it just got off a long flight.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow: Expect your charming moments with rain, heavy at times — think of it as nature’s overhead shower — along with a sprinkle of thunderstorms over the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and nearby islands. Later today, the rain will ease to mere showers, which is basically rain with a chill.

Everywhere else is also in on the action with occasional downpours and a flash of thunder – just enough to keep you on your toes! Localized heavy falls might lead to flash floods in those pesky low lying areas, so be cautious, my fellow weekend warriors! Winds will be moderate to fresh from the southwest to northerly direction, like they just finished a jog. And don’t forget those moderate to rough seas — hold on to your hats if you’re out sailing!

Outlook for Sunday: The clouds will play hide-and-seek, especially over southern parts and the interior of Viti Levu, southern Bua, Cakaudrove province, Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti group. Expect a few showers and possibly a rain dance or two. Elsewhere, it’s looking fine, with only a chance of those sneaky afternoon or evening showers.

Now, here’s the scoop for our beloved regions:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori:
Periods of rain, but once again, that rain will treat you like a good friend and ease into showers later today. Sunday? A bit cloudy with a few showers, just enough to remind you that nature has its moods.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast:
Heavy rain, a few thunderstorms, and then it will transform like a magic trick into light showers later today. Sunday should be dandy — just a possible shower here and there.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:
Heavy rain warning incoming, with a dramatic flair! Expect it to ease into showers later. Sunday? Only a couple of shy afternoon showers trying to rain on your parade.

For Tavua/Rakiraki:
Prepare for the rain show — heavy at times and a few thunderstorms, but they’ll bow out to showers later. Sunday’s looking good — mostly fine with a chance of a sneaky shower.

For Natadradave/Korovou:
Your rain forecast reads like a soap opera — heavy periods easing to showers later, and that drama continues on Sunday with a bit of cloud and shower action.

For Yasawa/Mamanuca group:
You guessed it! Time for rain and a touch of thunder, then showering later today. But don’t worry, Sunday should be mostly beautiful, with only a chance of those afternoon drops.

For Labasa:
Expect those heavy rain periods to cap off with gentler showers today. The forecast for Sunday looks bright, apart from a few potential afternoons showers that might show up fashionably late.

For Savusavu:
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are on today’s menu, but they’ll taper off soon. The Sunday forecast? A bit cloudy, with some showers joining the mix.

For Lau/Lomaiviti:
It’s a day for rain and drama, tapering off to showers. Sunday seems a bit cloudy, with showers — just enough to keep things interesting.

For Kadavu:
More mood swings with heavy rain today before easing into showers. And Sunday will bring a little cloud cover, along with some inquisitive showers.

For Rotuma:
The island is feeling pretty moist with occasional showers, heavy at times and a sprinkle of thunderstorms for good measure. Moderate easterly winds and seas make for an interesting Saturday. Sunday? Rain, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for some sunshine sneaking through.

Stay dry, keep smiling, and remember: every rain cloud has a silver lining, especially if it’s pouring on someone else!
