Weather Whims
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi, as of 11:00 PM on February 14, 2025.
Hold onto your umbrellas, Fiji, because we’ve got a Heavy Rain Alert that’s more certain than your uncle’s fish story! A sluggish trough of low pressure is hanging over our southern regions, making it rain harder than a toddler’s tantrum. It’s enhancing those lovely northwesterly winds, so expect showers to pop up like unexpected guests at a party.
So what’s the forecast for the evening? Let’s break it down:
For Kadavu, Moala Group, and Southern Lau: Be prepared for an occasional downpour that might just turn your plans into a splash zone! Thunderstorms might join the fun, so bring that bar of soap for a makeshift shower!
Interior Viti Levu, Sigatoka through Navua, Suva, and Tailevu North are looking at cloudy skies with showers intensifying to handsome rain and possibly a few thunderstorms that’ll rumble like your cousin’s stomach before dinner.
The rest of you in Fiji can expect occasional rain, with isolated downpours and a thunderstorm that’s feeling a bit needy for attention. Localized heavy falls may lead to some flash flooding for those living in low-lying areas. So if your boat is used solely for “fishing,” you might want to reconsider tonight’s activities.
Winds will be moderate and gusty in those heavy rain patches, and the seas will be like a nervous dog during a thunderstorm – moderate but rough in squalls.
What about Sunday, you ask? Get ready for more rain, possibly heavy at times, and those pesky thunderstorms in Kadavu, the Western Division, and its Interior parts. Elsewhere, occasional showers are still on the menu, but don’t expect a ‘no rain’ option!
Here’s how your specific locations are weathering the storm:
Navua / Suva / Nausori: Cloudy with some light showers that will ramp up to rains and frequent rainfall as the afternoon approaches. Expect those sunsets to be dimmed by clouds rather than romantic hues!
Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Similar story here – just occasional rain and perhaps a thunderstorm that thinks it can steal the show.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Cloudy vibes for you too, with showers progressively stretching into rain. Those thunderstorms are also likely to crash the party.
For Tavua, Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca, and Labasa: Occasional rain is basically the headline act followed by some heavy falls and thunderstorms, making sure no one stays dry.
Savusavu, Lau/Lomaiviti, and Kadavu also catch the rainy waves as they face occasional rain, heavy at times, with thunderstorms trying hard to keep us entertained.
Rotuma, don’t think you’re getting a pass! The weather trough is making its presence felt there too, with bouts of rain and gusty winds, keeping that island life interesting.
So, grab your galoshes, stock up on your favorite warm beverage, and channel your best rain dance because it looks like it’s going to be a fabulous washout for Fiji this weekend! Cuddle your loved ones, stay safe, and remember, if it rains too hard, just pretend you’re in a dramatic movie scene.
