Weather Update
Listen up, folks! The weather wizards at the National Weather Forecasting Centre have conjured up a heavy rain warning for the Western, Northern, and Interior parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands, Kadavu, and the surrounding little islands, plus Lau and Lomaiviti. In simpler terms, if you have plans to stay dry this weekend, you might need to rethink that!
What’s brewing? An active trough of low pressure is rolling in like a guest who overstays their welcome, bringing clouds and rain, along with some lively northwesterly winds. It looks like this weather shindig will be spreading eastward across Fiji until Monday.
Here’s the forecast for the Fiji group, up to midnight: Expect occasional rain, and guess what? It’s heavy at times! There’s a possibility of thunderstorms too, especially over the Greater Nadi Area, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Vatukoula, Rakiraki, and the rugged interiors of Ba-Ra-Nadroga-Navosa, Naitasiri, Northern Bua, and Macuata provinces, along with our other rain-diving friends in Kadavu and the little islands, Lau, and Lomaiviti. Keep your galoshes handy; localized heavy downpours might have you wading through puddles in no time!
For the rest of the fabulous Fiji group: occasional rain, with a few sassy thunderstorms sneaking in. Isolated heavy falls are forecast, especially during the afternoon or evening – the perfect time to get stuck in traffic!
The winds will be moderate to fresh from the northwest, tossing gusts around during those rain and thunder moments, while seas will be moderate to rough. So, if you’re thinking about taking a dip, make sure you check the forecast first!
Looking ahead to Monday: Same old tune – occasional periods of rain, thunderstorms, and localized heavy falls that might turn some areas into water parks. Fantastic for ducks, not so much for your footwear!
For specific regions:
– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Rain galore, with a few thunderstorms. The heavy falls might just make you wish you’d taken up swimming!
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: The rain continues its waltz, heavy at times with those delightful thunderstorms sprinkled in.
– Tavua / Rakiraki / Yasawa / Mamanuca Group: More of that charming rain mixed with thunderstorms, perfect for indoor activities or a spirited game of splashing.
– Labasa: Expect the showers to keep crashing your plans, just like that one friend who never seems to get the hint!
– Savusavu: Occasional rain with a few thunderstorms—definitely not a great day for a picnic!
– Lau / Lomaiviti / Kadavu: Similar vibes: rain and heavy falls galore!
And let’s not forget about our friends at Rotuma: a moist wind is blowing, bringing cloudy skies with a little shower action!
So, lace up those rain boots and grab your umbrellas, because it’s a wet and wild weekend ahead in paradise! Stay safe and may your days be filled with cozy vibes and hot drinks!
