Weather Update

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:00 PM on Friday, April 18, 2025

Attention, weather watchers! It seems the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and the eastern half of Viti Levu have received an invite to the “Heavy Rain Extravaganza.” So, grab your umbrellas, folks, because it’s going to get a bit soggy out there! The skies are planning to drop a few heavy showers and even throw in a thunderstorm or two for good measure. Exciting, right? If you’re still planning to resist the rain, don’t forget to check out the Special Weather Bulletin from NWFC for all the juicy details!

And if you’re somewhere in the flood-prone areas of Vanua Levu or the eastern half of Viti Levu, brace yourself for a flash flood alert. That’s right, it’s a water party, and unfortunately, invited guests may include some inconvenient flooding in low-lying areas. Please do stay safe and informed by checking out the Special Weather Bulletin for the latest updates.

Now, here’s the 411 on our forecast:

Expect to see periods of rain (with a chance to impress with heavy downpours) in the Northern Division and nearby islands, as well as the eastern half of Viti Levu. A few thunderstorms might join the fun tonight. Rain is set to ease into mere showers by tomorrow, so make sure to put your raincoat away… kind of.

For the rest of the Fiji group, expect some cloudy moments sprinkled with showers – kind of like being inside a giant marshmallow. Isolated heavy falls could charm us with their randomness, along with moderate to fresh winds blowing to keep things interesting. Seas may be moderate to rough, so hold on to your hats if you’re venturing out!

And what does Sunday have in store? Cloudy with some showers, especially over the southern parts, while the rest of Fiji could experience fine weather, swooping in like the superhero of the day… unless, you know, the weather decides to pull a fast one and sprinkle in some afternoon or evening showers.

Here’s a quick region-by-region weather summary to keep you engaged:

Navua/Suva/Nausori: Rain with a chance of furious thunderstorms, easing to mere showers tomorrow.

Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Cloudy with some shower drama, particularly in the afternoons or overnight!

Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Similar weather theatrics—expect cloudy periods and some showers, with a hint of evening excitement.

Tavua/Rakiraki: The rain continues to be heavy at times, easing up to showers tomorrow.

Natadradave/Korovou: Expect some exasperating heavy rain mixed with thunder before the showers ease.

Yasawa/Mamanuca: You’ve got cloudy periods with showers; at least the islands are trying to keep it interesting!

Labasa and Savusavu: Heavy rain with potential thunderstorm performances…but they’ll take a bow by tomorrow with lighter showers expected.

Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu: The heavy rains are in line for you too, but don’t worry, they’ll calm down to showers soon enough.

Rotuma: Showers and thunderstorms are all the rage for you, with more on the way tomorrow!

So, there you have it, folks! Weather recommendations: Stay dry, wear something splash-proof, and maybe have a cozy movie marathon planned for those rainy spells!
