Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 18, 2025

Grab your umbrellas and your favorite raincoat because it’s about to get wet out there! A heavy rain warning is still hanging on like a guest who just won’t leave for the Northern Division, Lau, Lomaiviti Groups, Kadavu, and the eastern half of Viti Levu (you know, the Serua/Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, and Ra-Rakiraki-Tavua regions). But don’t worry, if you’re on the western side—Yasawa and Mamanuca—you’ve been given the ‘all clear’ to put your umbrellas back in the closet.

It might be tempting to build a boat, but hold off just yet! A flash flood alert is in effect for all low-lying and flood-prone areas across Vanua Levu and the eastern half of Viti Levu, so if your street starts looking like a waterpark, you’ll know why.

The situation is that a trough of low pressure is loitering over our lovely islands, slowly cruising eastward and planning to leave by Sunday. But until then, it’s bringing its plus-one, clouds, and showers to many parts of the group.

Forecast until midnight:
For the Northern Division, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and parts of Eastern Viti Levu, expect periods of rain that may start heavy enough to consider building that boat, followed by an appearance of thunderstorms. But don’t fret! The rain should ease to a gentle shower by tomorrow, so keep your faith in sunshine.

For the rest of Fiji, it’s cloudy with some scattered showers, particularly in the evening—think of it as nature’s own version of a surprise party!

Heads up: localized heavy downpours could cause some minor flash flooding in low-lying areas. So, keep your floaties handy!

As for Sunday’s outlook: expect cloudy vibes with showers gracing the southern parts and some coastal provinces, but over in other areas, we might catch some sunlight with only a few possible afternoon or evening showers.

Now, let’s get into the specifics:

Navua / Suva / Nausori: It’s looking rainy and wild today with a chance of thunderstorms. But don’t worry, things should calm down tomorrow.

Sigatoka/Coral Coast: A little cloud, a little rain—mostly in the afternoon. Sunday should be fine, with just a sprinkle expected later.

Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Same story—cloudy with some rain and a possible evening shower to keep things lively.

Tavua/Rakiraki, Natadradave/Korovou, Yasawa/Mamanuca group, Savusavu, Lau/Lomaiviti, and Kadavu all get to enjoy similar rain and thunder festivities today, all easing to showers tomorrow. Sunday looks cloudy for most, hovering just above the rain threshold.

And for Rotuma, it’s cloud and occasional showers until Sunday, which could also have a thunderstorm come to visit.

So, grab that umbrella, don your rain boots, and prepare for some fun weather adventures ahead!
