Attention, residents of Viti Levu: grab your galoshes, because we have a special weather bulletin! A severe thunderstorm is crashing the party, and it’s bringing along heavy rain. Yes, it’s that kind of weather that makes you want to stay inside with a cup of cocoa – or something stronger!
Currently, a weak trough of low pressure seems to be hanging out over Fiji, refusing to leave anytime soon. It’s rolling in back-to-back clouds and showers that are here to make things a little damp over the next few days.
Now, let’s break down the forecast for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow:
The eastern half of Viti Levu (think Serua/Namosi through Navua to Suva, stretching to Nausori and Tailevu North, taking a pit stop in the interior of Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra) can expect occasional showers and sporadic thunderstorms. Buckle up, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, along with Kadavu and nearby smaller islands – you are in for the same ride!
Cakaudrove and southern Bua might get some clouds and showers, but elsewhere it’s all sunshine and rainbows… until the afternoon or evening rolls around, when those pesky showers might decide to crash your picnic.
And for those of you in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, be prepared for some electrifying afternoons filled with thunderstorms and heavy rain. And yes, localized heavy falls could lead to some flash flooding in low-lying areas – so make sure those sandbags are ready!
The weekend looks equally fabulous with moderate easterly winds and moderate seas to match.
Looking forward to Friday, the forecast indicates occasional rain and a few thunderstorms sneaking back into the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, the eastern half of Viti Levu, and the rest of the islands.
– For Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Say hello to occasional showers, isolated thunderstorms, and possibly heavy downpours.
– Over in Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: Expect sunny spells with some afternoon or evening spattering of showers—kind of like nature’s confetti!
– Tavua and Rakiraki will see occasional showers, but let’s not forget about those isolated thunderstorms ready to make their debut.
– The Yasawa/Mamanuca group can enjoy fine weather for now, only to have the afternoon shower dance party crash in.
In Labasa, enjoy the sunshine, but keep an umbrella handy for potential afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Savusavu? It’s cloudy for you with some imminent showers.
For our coastal island friends—Lau, Lomaiviti, and Kadavu—occasional showers and a few thunderstorms are on the menu.
And finally, Rotuma, our east-wind buddies: things are looking cloudy with some showers and perhaps a stray thunderstorm. Remember, tomorrow that pesky trough of low pressure is planning a meet-up just for you.
Stay dry, and may your rain dances bring sunshine soon!
