Weather Update: Thunderstorms are crashing the party!
Hold on to your umbrellas, folks! The National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the eastern parts of Viti Levu, from Navua to Suva and everywhere in between—yes, that’s right, we’re talking about a rain party that even the sun can’t crash!
What’s going on? A troublesome trough of low pressure is lounging over the western parts of Viti Levu, deciding to drift eastward like it’s on a slow vacation. By Sunday, it’ll be hanging out just northeast of Fiji, waving hello to some gloomy clouds and a wind flow that’s blowing in from the west and southwest.
So what’s on the weather menu for the Fiji group until the clock strikes midnight tomorrow? Expect cloudy skies with a sprinkle of showers and some isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms—because what’s a bit of excitement without a little thunder? Just keep an eye out for those potential heavy downpours that might lead to flash flooding in flood-prone areas.
Tomorrow’s forecast is serving up more of the same: cloudy periods, brief showers, and a possibility of those sneaky afternoon or evening thunderstorms in the interior. Winds will be moderate and seas will be manageable, so take your boat out, but remember to come back before the rain decides to join you.
Here’s the scoop for the local areas:
For our friends in Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Today brings cloudy periods with some light showers, and those pesky thunderstorms could crash in this afternoon or evening. Expect a minimum of 23°C and a maximum of a sizzling 34°C. Tomorrow, it’ll still be cloudy with a quick shower or two.
Getting ready for the weekend lift-off in Sigatoka and the Coral Coast? Same stormy invitation goes out: cloudy skies with a chance of showers and thunderstorms today. The temperature will play nice between 24°C and 32°C.
And Nadi/Lautoka/Ba, you won’t escape the gloom either! The hit list includes cloudy periods with showers and those mischievous thunderstorms later today. Prepare for 23°C and a maximum of 34°C.
In Tavua/Rakiraki, the forecast is almost identical. The greatest hits include cloudy periods, afternoon thunderstorms, and highs of 33°C.
On the Yasawa/Mamanuca islands, fluffy clouds will be accompanied by occasional rain showers and isolated thunderstorms. Stay snug as temps hover between a comfy 24°C and 33°C.
In Labasa, it’s thunderstorms galore, with temperatures sneaking into the 34°C range later today.
Savusavu and Nabouwalu are also getting in on the action, both seeing a mix of clouds and heavy rain.
Wrapping it all up with Taveuni and the Lau and Lomaiviti group, you guessed it: cloudy periods with more chances of thunderstorms.
Finally, Rotuma, keep your hats on too! You might not be soggy just yet, but don’t let your guard down because tomorrow is bringing occasional showers—just like that unexpected relative who shows up unannounced!
So, regardless of where you are, looks like you’ll want to keep your raincoats and flip-flops in close reach—who knows, Mother Nature might just show you the time of your life! Stay safe, and may the forecast be ever in your favor!
