Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:05 AM on Thursday, February 13, 2025

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! We have a formidable thunderstorm brewing, and it’s packing a punch of heavy rain for the interior regions of Viti Levu, stretching from Sigatoka through Navua to Suva up to Korovou. Not to be outdone, the southern parts of Vanua Levu, including areas like Savusavu and the always-sunny South Bua, will also be getting in on the action. If you were planning on an outdoor adventure, you may want to consider a game of indoor dodgeball instead.

If you’re in the beautiful islands of Kadavu, Moala, or the Southern Lau, be ready for a heavy rain alert that will keep you company as well. So, unless you’re a fish, it might be best to keep your head dry and stay close to shelter. For more details on this aquatic situation, you can wade over to the official website.

The weather situation is due to a sluggish trough of low pressure, which sounds like a bad excuse for being late to a party, but it actually means cloudy skies and rain spreading across Fiji later today. The forecast for our lovely island group until midnight tomorrow calls for frequent downpours—think of it as nature’s way of helping you practice your umbrella skills.

Interior parts of Viti Levu, as well as the infamous Sigatoka to Navua route and Southern Vanua Levu areas, will be enjoying some fine weather, with the expectation of afternoon or evening thunderstorms crashing your sunny moments. Tomorrow also promises to start off a bit cloudy—rain likely isn’t in the romantic planning books, but it’s never too late for a rain dance.

In Lomaiviti and beyond, expect sporadic showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm or two, just to keep you on your toes. And elsewhere in Fiji? A mix of sunny weather with occasional surprise rain showers—kind of like receiving an unexpected gift, only it’s water instead of socks.

Looking ahead to Saturday, it’s more of the same—occasional rain showers, thunderstorms that crash the party, and heavy falls in all the right (or wrong) places. Just remember, if you’re navigating the roads, be wary of flash flooding, as our scenic views may come with a splash zone today.

So grab a towel, stay indoors if possible, and let’s hope the weather doesn’t turn into a soggy mess that has us all making paper boats for the foreseeable future!
