Fijian rugby legends Waisale Serevi and Jerry Tuwai are set to take center stage in a special Legends Select Match during the upcoming Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, celebrating the tournament’s 50th anniversary. Marist Rugby Club president Lawrence Tikaram announced that both icons will choose and lead their respective teams in a thrilling exhibition match, which will precede the Men’s Cup Final.

“It’s an honor to have these two legends come on board and prepare their own teams,” Tikaram stated, emphasizing the significance of their involvement. The Legends Select Match is anticipated to be a highlight of this Golden Jubilee edition, showcasing former stars while honoring the tournament’s rich history since its inception in 1977.

As a gesture of appreciation, the teams will compete for a shared cash prize of $5,000, along with five cartons of Fiji Bitter, a tribute to the tournament’s roots. “They’ll be sharing $5,000 cash prize money just for that game and, of course, five cartons of Fiji Bitter because that’s where it all started from at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s back in 1977,” Tikaram explained.

Additionally, the Marist Rugby Club plans to salute 60 individuals who have played a critical role in the tournament’s development over the past 49 years, with names set to be revealed shortly. The 50th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s is scheduled to take place from the 26th to the 28th of next month at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, promising a memorable celebration of rugby history and community spirit.
