Two security guards charged with the murder of a 29-year-old man have had their bail extended. Semi Tamanivalu, 25, and Leone Matai, 43, appeared before Justice Usaia Ratuvili in the High Court in Suva yesterday. The guards, who worked at a supermarket in Suva, allegedly assaulted the victim under the suspicion of theft. A post-mortem examination indicated that the victim sustained severe injuries from the alleged attack, which ultimately led to his death.

State lawyer Simone Seruvatu informed the court that additional time is needed to serve the necessary information and disclosures. The defense attorney did not oppose the prosecution’s request to delay proceedings to compile the accused individuals’ information and disclosures. Tamanivalu and Matai are scheduled to return to court on October 7 to receive their documents.
