Residents of Seaqaqa in Vanua Levu have gained enhanced access to literature and educational materials, thanks to the inauguration of a new bookshop in their community. The establishment, situated next to the Sugar Cane Growers Fund, boasts a diverse selection of books, stationery, and learning resources intended to benefit students, educators, and the larger community.

The bookshop’s owner, Mohamed Tauseef Khan, expressed his desire to give back to the town where he was raised. “I was schooled here in Seaqaqa before moving to Suva to complete my studies,” he remarked. By opening this bookshop, Khan aims to support education by ensuring that local children and schools have improved access to essential learning tools.

Khan, who is the son of the late Mohamed Taiyab Khan—a well-respected businessman known for founding one of Seaqaqa’s first supermarkets in the 1980s—draws inspiration from his father’s legacy. “My father believed strongly in hard work and service to the community. This shop is inspired by those values and by his contribution to Seaqaqa.”

Despite currently working with the Fiji Sugar Corporation in the West, Khan stated that his heart remains in Seaqaqa. He envisions that the bookshop will bring about a positive change for the community. “Education is very important for our future. If we can make books and stationery more accessible here in town, then we are investing in our children and in Seaqaqa’s development.”

Now open to the public, the new bookshop is expected to serve the needs of students, schools, and offices throughout the Seaqaqa area, marking a hopeful step towards fostering educational growth in the region.
