The Flying Fijians may be gearing up to host Scotland in a Test match during the July Test series in 2025. This possibility was suggested by Scotland’s head coach, Gregor Townsend, in a recent interview. Townsend shared that the Scottish rugby team is in the planning stages for a summer tour of the South Seas, which is expected to include a match in Fiji.

Scotland recently opened their Autumn Nations Test Series with a conclusive 57-17 victory over the Fijians at Murrayfield last month, before clinching a win against Australia. The upcoming game would mark the first time Scotland has faced the Flying Fijians on their home ground since 2017.

“The summer tour that we are organizing is to go to the South Seas,” Townsend stated, indicating confidence that Fiji will be one of the opponents. He expressed hopes of adding another match in either New Zealand or other islands, aiming for a total of two Tests during the tour. Townsend emphasized the importance of providing more players with international experience, building on the success of last summer’s four-match series.

Historically, Fiji has had notable success against Scotland, having defeated them in their last two encounters, including a 51-26 win in 1998 and a nail-biting 27-22 victory in 2017, both held in Suva.

In addition to the potential match against Scotland, the Flying Fijians are set to face the Australian team at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on July 6, 2025, as part of their warm-up. This matchup precedes the upcoming Test series between Australia and the British & Irish Lions.

While fans speculate if one of Scotland’s matches could also be against the All Blacks, Townsend hinted that it would be more feasible to arrange a midweek game instead. He remains focused on the immediate challenges of the Six Nations while recognizing that the matchup against Fiji will be a difficult but exciting competitive opportunity.

Overall, the prospect of Scotland touring Fiji brings an air of optimism for rugby enthusiasts in the region, promising exhilarating matches that could showcase the increasingly competitive nature of international rugby. In a time where sports bring communities together, this upcoming series could be a chance for Fiji to celebrate its rich rugby tradition and provide local fans with thrilling action on home soil.
