All schools in the Lau, Lomaiviti, and Vanua Levu regions will be closed tomorrow due to the impending threat posed by Tropical Depression TD09F. This decision was announced by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, after consulting with the National Disaster Risk Management Office. The closure is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of both students and staff amid warnings of strong winds and heavy rain.

As of the latest updates, Tropical Depression TD09F is situated approximately 350 km northeast of Cikobia and is expected to gradually intensify as it moves south towards Fiji. With the risk of strong winds and heavy rains intensifying, the Minister has called on parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s safety and take necessary precautions during this adverse weather period.

While schools in the affected areas will be closed, those outside the Lau Group, Lomaiviti, and Vanua Levu will remain open. However, parents are advised to use their discretion when deciding on their children’s attendance, especially for families living in flood-prone areas.

School heads have been instructed to maintain communication with their School Management Committees and local authorities for any updates or further developments. The Ministry of Education is committed to keeping all stakeholders informed through official press releases and announcements via mainstream media and their online platforms.

In light of this challenging weather situation, it is crucial for the community to remain vigilant and support each other, fostering a sense of unity and preparedness. With the right measures in place and effective communication, there’s hope that students will navigate these hurdles safely.
