Schools in the Northern Division, Lau Group, and the Lomaiviti Group will be closed tomorrow due to the adverse conditions expected from Tropical Depression TD09F. The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Office, made this decision to prioritize the safety of students and staff amid forecasts of strong winds and heavy rain.

As of this morning, TD09F is located approximately 350 km northeast of Cikobia and is anticipated to intensify as it moves south towards Fiji waters. The system may produce strong to near gale-force winds and heavy rainfall, affecting various regions starting from later today.

All schools outside the affected areas, including those in Vanua Levu, will remain open; however, parents are advised to exercise discretion regarding their children’s attendance, particularly for those in flood-prone zones.

The Ministry of Education urges parents and guardians to implement safety measures for their children during this period, emphasizing the importance of communication between school heads and local authorities for any updates. The Ministry will continue to keep the public informed through press releases and announcements via mainstream media and its official platforms.

This situation reflects a broader commitment among Fiji’s educational and disaster management agencies to ensure student safety during severe weather events. As the community braces for potential challenges, there remains hope that through communication and proactive measures, residents can navigate the impacts of this weather system together.
