Schools in the Northern Division, Lau Group, and Lomaiviti Group will close tomorrow due to the expected adverse weather conditions from Tropical Depression TD09F. The Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the National Disaster Management Office, prioritized the safety of students and staff after forecasting strong winds and heavy rainfall in these regions.

Currently, Tropical Depression TD09F is situated about 350 km northeast of Cikobia and is projected to gain strength as it heads south towards Fiji waters. Its anticipated effects include strong to near gale-force winds and heavy rainfall, which may begin impacting various areas later today.

While schools in unaffected regions, such as Vanua Levu, will remain open, parents are encouraged to consider their children’s safety, especially for those living in flood-prone areas. The Ministry of Education is urging all guardians to take necessary precautions and to stay connected with school administrators and local authorities for ongoing updates.

This decision reflects a collective endeavor among Fiji’s educational sector and disaster management agencies to safeguard students during severe weather conditions. As the community prepares for potential challenges posed by this weather system, there is optimism that through effective communication and proactive safety measures, residents will successfully navigate the impacts together.
