The Suva City Council (SCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), providing skilled-based employees the opportunity to enhance their qualifications through skilled-based certification.

SCC’s acting chief executive officer, Tevita Boseiwaqa, stated that this agreement would benefit over 200 staff members engaged in skill-based work. He emphasized that the MoU is designed to cover approximately three-quarters of the council’s workforce and aligns with their strategy of promoting multi-level and multi-skilled development among employees.

To effectively utilize the MoU, SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where staff can benefit from the opportunities provided by the agreement. Mr. Boseiwaqa noted that this initiative aims to enhance staff skills, creating a stronger foundation for their professional growth.

Peni Taoi, the founding director of PP, expressed his enthusiasm for the MoU, highlighting that it complements similar agreements made with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils, which also offer similar advantages to their employees. Mr. Taoi remarked that Pacific Polytech’s focus on technical training and upskilling aligns perfectly with the evolving needs of the workforce.
