The Water Authority of Fiji has announced that the restoration of water supply in Savusavu is making steady progress following recent disruptions. As of midday yesterday, the Savusavu Water Treatment Plant was operating at approximately 80 percent of its normal production capacity after successfully clearing intake screens and stabilizing raw water inflows.
Recovery efforts for local reservoirs are also underway. By around 5 p.m. yesterday, the Tavutikau Reservoir was completely replenished, enabling the activation of booster pumps to refill the Navaqiqi Reservoir. As a result, water supply has steadily begun to return to lower-lying areas, including Savusavu Town, with supply expected to reach higher elevation areas as reservoir levels continue to improve.
The Water Authority of Fiji projects further enhancements in water supply later tonight, contingent on stable conditions remaining in place. However, it has cautioned that some isolated areas may continue to experience low water pressure or intermittent supply during this recovery phase.
To assist affected residents, seven water carting trucks have been deployed throughout Savusavu, and additional teams are working on system flushing, intake maintenance, and network stabilization across all water sources. The Water Authority forecasts that full system restoration will be achieved by this evening into tomorrow morning for elevated areas.
Customers are encouraged to conserve water while restoration efforts are implemented, and further updates will be communicated as needed. This proactive approach aims to ensure that all communities receive the necessary support during this challenging time.
