SAVUSAVU Hospital has been without X-ray services for an entire year, compelling patients to either travel to Labasa Hospital or incur costs for private imaging services. The absence of this essential service has caused significant inconvenience, particularly for vulnerable groups such as expectant mothers, the elderly, and individuals with potential fractures or injury from accidents.
Assistant Health Minister Penioni Ravunawa addressed the issue, stating that the restoration of X-ray services is contingent on completing a major electrical upgrade at the hospital. He mentioned that the ministry has a well-defined plan to install a new X-ray unit, either floor-mounted or ceiling-mounted, to enhance diagnostic capabilities once the electrical improvements are completed.
Ravunawa emphasized that the electrical upgrade is scheduled for this financial year, which is crucial for the installation of the new X-ray system. He reinforced the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a safe and practical enhancement of healthcare services while continuing to provide support for frontline medical personnel.
In light of these developments, there is hope that the community will soon have access to reliable diagnostic imaging services, alleviating the burden on patients and improving overall healthcare delivery in the region.
