In an effort to promote cleanliness during the upcoming Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s tournament, organizers have implemented a comprehensive recycling program for the event scheduled next week. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Savusavu Town Council, will include designated collection points for community members to return plastic bottles in exchange for a refund, encouraging environmental responsibility among attendees.
With the tournament expected to draw large crowds to Ganilau Park from February 5 to 7, the partnership aims to engage fans, supporters, teams, and officials in maintaining the cleanliness of the area, which is affectionately known as the Hidden Paradise.
Tournament organizers are committed to showcasing regional talent and fostering community pride while ensuring a well-coordinated and professional rugby event. Etrina Simpson, head of marketing for Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, highlighted the vibrant atmosphere that accompanies the tournament, stating, “There is a real heartbeat to Savusavu during this tournament. You see it in the crowds, in the players, and in the way the whole town gets behind this event.”
As the third leg of the 2025/26 Fiji Bitter 7s Series, the Savusavu tournament will feature 32 men’s teams, eight women’s teams, and 16 under-21 teams, reflecting a commitment to expanding opportunities for aspiring athletes. The format will include pool matches leading into saucer, plate, bowl, and shield competitions, all governed by standards aligned with the Fiji Rugby Union and international rugby guidelines.
The enthusiasm surrounding the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s exemplifies the strong community spirit in Vanua Levu, as local passion continues to shape the tournament’s growth year after year. Simpson remarked on the significance of the event, affirming that Fiji Bitter is proud to support an occasion that brings pride and positivity to the community.
The Savusavu 7s, set to kick off on February 5 and run through February 7, promises to be a thrilling event, not only showcasing rugby talent but also emphasizing environmental stewardship and community engagement.
