The Marist Saint Joseph club from Samoa is eagerly participating in the much-awaited 49th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, which kicked off today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Team captain Joseph Silver, at 29 years old, is thrilled to represent Samoa for the first time in Fiji, viewing this experience not just as competition, but as an opportunity to learn from Fiji’s extensive rugby heritage.

Silver underscored the dual objectives of their participation: to compete at a high level and to absorb knowledge from their Pacific Island counterparts. “We are here to compete and learn from our Pacific Island brothers in Fiji,” Silver mentioned, while expressing their fervent hope to bring the trophy back to Samoa. He also extended appreciation for the unwavering support from their families and the broader Samoan community, asking for positive wishes as they step onto the international stage.

This year’s tournament is notable for its impressive assembly of over 95 teams, including local and international clubs. Alongside Marist Saint Joseph, Faleata Sports Domain, another prominent Samoan team, is set to compete, both eager to demonstrate their skills and make a mark in the tournament’s history. The event promises an electric atmosphere filled with thrilling matches and a strong emphasis on sportsmanship, celebrating the spirit of unity in rugby throughout the Pacific region.

Renowned for its competitive edge and community-focused ethos, the Marist 7s also plays a crucial role in nurturing emerging rugby talents, offering aspiring athletes invaluable experience. The incorporation of various new categories, including under-18 competitions, creates an exciting environment for growth in the sport.

As the tournament unfolds, both fans and players are looking forward to an exhilarating display of talent and camaraderie, reinforcing the rugby culture in Fiji while inspiring the next generation of players. The positive vibes surrounding this event highlight a hopeful future for rugby across the Pacific Islands, showcasing the passion and dedication of its players.
