Checkpoints will remain operational across the nation as police continue to enforce safety measures during the festive season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the Fiji Police Force’s role in ensuring road safety and security, affirming that checkpoint activities are set to increase throughout this holiday period.

Driu highlighted that these checkpoints act as a deterrent for those with ill intentions, while simultaneously serving as reminders for drivers to prioritize their safety and that of their passengers. The police have ramped up their operational tempo since last month to foster a secure environment during this celebratory time.

Through these measures, police officers have been able to confiscate illegal substances, apprehend individuals without proper documentation, and identify those driving with excessive numbers of passengers and driving under the influence of alcohol.

In his statement, ACP Driu urged the public to exercise patience during these checks, reinforcing that the ultimate goal of these initiatives is to enhance the safety of all road users.

Overall, the continued presence of checkpoints reflects a proactive approach to public safety, especially during a time when festive activities tend to increase the risk on the roads. This initiative not only aims to prevent potential accidents but also fosters a sense of collective responsibility among the community.
