An alleged case of sacrilege has been reported at the Maha Shakti Mata Mandir in Natunuku, Ba, prompting police involvement after the incident was reported yesterday. Intruders gained access by removing one of the temple’s grills, however, no theft was reported. The damage to the temple is estimated to exceed $100.

This incident adds to a concerning trend of similar acts targeting places of worship throughout Fiji. Recent reports have highlighted break-ins at various temples, including the Tulsi Tirath Mandir in Nadera, where valuable items were stolen, and the Jai Hind Prahaat Ramayan Faag Mandali temple in Rakiraki, which also faced theft. Such acts not only compromise the physical sanctity of these spaces but also threaten the sense of community harmony and respect among diverse faiths.

Authorities have been emphasizing the importance of vigilance and community cooperation to help protect these sacred sites. Encouragingly, there is hope that through collective action and open dialogue, communities can foster an environment that respects and honors all religious traditions. These sentiments reinforce the call for increased awareness and protective measures to prevent further sacrilege, ensuring that such places remain sanctuaries for worship.
