President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has praised the Ministry for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management for its impactful contributions to enhancing the living conditions of individuals in rural and outer island communities. During a recent courtesy visit by Minister Sakiasi Ditoka and the ministry’s senior leadership team at State House, the President was briefed on significant developments and ongoing programs aimed at fostering growth and sustainability in these areas.
The President expressed appreciation for the array of development initiatives being implemented across the nation, recognizing the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people in rural regions, as well as in the interior of the main islands and the outer islands.
Minister Ditoka provided an update on several assistance programs, including those focused on rural housing, farm access roads, sanitation projects, the High-Risk Water Programme, self-help initiatives, and support for seafaring entrepreneurship. He also mentioned that a comprehensive Rural Development Policy is nearing completion, which signals further progress in addressing the needs of rural communities.
Emphasizing the importance of these efforts, the President thanked Minister Ditoka and the Divisional Commissioners for their dedication while reinforcing that rural communities will continue to be a national priority, especially in light of ongoing population movement towards urban centers.
