Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey has arrived in Fiji ahead of the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting scheduled to begin tomorrow in Nadi. She expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome she received from the host nation.
In a message on social media platform X, Ms. Botchwey highlighted the significance of the upcoming meeting, especially amid the growing pressures facing the rule of law globally. “With the rule of law under pressure globally, our meeting brings the #Commonwealth together to strengthen the legal protections people rely on daily to live, work and prosper – our shared priority,” she wrote. Emphasizing the importance of legal systems, she stated, “The rule of law is the foundation of a resilient future.”
During the meeting, Ms. Botchwey stated that discussions will focus on practical initiatives to enhance legal systems and ensure better access to justice throughout the Commonwealth. She remarked, “Next week, I look forward to joining Commonwealth law ministers to discuss practical steps to strengthen legal systems and improve access to justice for all across the Commonwealth.”
