The Saint Vincent College Under-16 girls rugby team is expressing dissatisfaction with a referee’s decision during their quarterfinal match against Dreketi Central College in the Weet-Bix Raluve tournament. The team believes a try they scored should have been awarded, as they feel it was wrongly disallowed by the referee, according to Assistant Team Manager Litiana Qilu.
Qilu emphasized that the team’s feelings of injustice stem from the initial awarding of the try, which the referee later overturned. “I felt that we were served with injustice,” she stated. The team plans to formally lodge a complaint, understanding that the resolution process may be lengthy, but they are determined to pursue justice.
The girls are committed to fighting for clarity and fairness in this situation, with Qilu asserting that they will not rest until they receive satisfactory answers. As the Raluve championships take a break this week, all eyes will be on the upcoming semifinals scheduled for next week at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
The sentiment of the team reflects a broader discussion surrounding fairness in officiating in sports, as similar issues have arisen in recent tournaments involving scorekeeping errors, which led to confusion and emotional turmoil among players and supporters. Maintaining transparency and fairness is vital in ensuring a level playing field for all teams involved.
