The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) have launched an innovative four-year partnership with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) focused on improving road safety throughout Fiji. LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa highlighted the significance of this collaboration in enhancing compliance with traffic laws among Fijian road users.

Leveraging the popularity of rugby and its athletes, the partnership aims to create a culture of road safety awareness and responsibility within communities. “This collaboration acknowledges the vital role of sports, especially rugby, in influencing attitudes and behaviors within Fiji,” stated Rokosawa during the agreement signing with FRU.

Rugby players, highly revered in Fijian society, are positioned as crucial advocates for responsible road use. ACCF Executive Chairman Maritino Nemani emphasized the collective goal of improving road safety standards. Together, the organizations aspire to minimize accidents and foster a culture of care among road users.

FRU General Manager Avnil Pratap expressed pride in supporting this vital initiative, underscoring the union’s dedication to the well-being of Fijians both on and off the field. He reiterated the potential of rugby players as community role models, whose influence can inspire exemplary behavior and promote safety.

This partnership also complements LTA’s broader strategy of collaborating with private organizations dedicated to creating safer roads for all citizens. Such alliances are vital as Fiji continues to address challenges like reckless driving and pedestrian safety.

In summary, this partnership between LTA, ACCF, and FRU marks a significant step towards enhancing road safety in Fiji, utilizing the love of rugby to cultivate a more responsible driving culture. It presents a hopeful outlook for reducing traffic-related incidents and fostering a safer environment for all road users.
