The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) have collaborated with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) to address the pressing issue of road safety in Fiji. This partnership aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities throughout the nation by promoting adherence to traffic regulations among all road users.

LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa highlighted the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing the ability of rugby players to influence public behavior and attitudes. “This innovative partnership recognizes the critical role of sports, particularly rugby, in shaping attitudes and behaviors in Fiji,” he noted, asserting that rugby players, who are highly respected in the community, can effectively promote safe driving practices.

The alliance between LTA, ACCF, and FRU is set to run over the next four years, leveraging the universal acclaim of rugby to foster a culture of road safety. Rokosawa underscored rugby’s role as a unifying force in Fiji, stating, “Through this partnership with FRU, we are sending a clear message that road safety is a collective responsibility.”

Avnil Pratap, General Manager of Commercial, Broadcast & Marketing at the Fiji Rugby Union, reaffirmed FRU’s commitment to not only the sporting community but to the wellbeing of all Fijians. He emphasized the important role players can play as role models, saying, “Their voices carry weight.” Pratap expressed hope that this initiative will inspire positive changes in behavior and encourage everyone to prioritize safety on the roads.

This proactive approach demonstrates a commendable effort to integrate sports into social responsibility, showing how influential figures can lead transformations within communities. By harnessing the power of rugby, both on and off the field, Fiji is taking significant steps towards safer roads and a more responsible society.

In summary, the synergy between LTA, ACCF, and FRU represents a promising initiative that could lead to a dramatic improvement in road safety awareness and compliance among Fijians, ultimately saving lives and creating a safer environment for all.
