Isimeli Kiso, the captain of Marist Brothers High School’s Under-17 Rugby League team, is stepping into a pivotal role this season in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby League competition. With many of his teammates being newcomers to the sport, Kiso finds himself as the only player from last season, significantly impacting the team’s ability to adapt and grow.

The team has made a strong start, securing consecutive victories with scores of 12-0 against Lomary and 18-4 against Nabua Secondary School. Kiso expressed his appreciation for his teammates’ performances, highlighting that many are participating in rugby league for the first time. “A lot of these players have just started training recently, and I’m thankful they managed to play a good game that earned us the win,” he noted.

Kiso’s inspiration stems from his father, a former player who won the Sukuna Bowl in 2017, and he views his captaincy as an opportunity for both personal and team development. He recognizes this experience as not only a challenge but also a chance to deepen his understanding of the game.

Looking ahead to the third round of competition this Saturday, Marist Brothers High School aims to maintain their early momentum. Their strong start bodes well for their potential growth and highlights a foundation for teamwork and camaraderie, which are essential for success.

This situation resonates with similar sentiments from other schools in the league, including Naitasiri Secondary School, which emphasizes teamwork and discipline in their quest to defend their championship title. Such shared experiences among the schools enhance the competitive landscape and highlight a collective commitment to nurturing youth athletics throughout Fiji.

Kiso and his team’s determination and collaborative spirit offer a promising outlook for the future of rugby in Fiji, exemplifying how young athletes can inspire hope and progress in their communities.
