The Nasinu Rugby Club faces significant challenges in preparing for their upcoming matches in the Suva Rugby Union Club competition, particularly due to a lack of adequate training facilities. This weekend, the team experienced a close defeat of 22-15 against the Nabua Maroons in their FMF Suva Escott Shield match held at Bidesi Park.
Head coach Sunia Vusoniyasi explained that currently, the team conducts their training sessions at the Delainavesi Government School grounds, the only viable location accessible to them. However, inclement weather often results in the closure of the fields, forcing players to practice along a nearby road. Vusoniyasi noted, “We face a lot of challenges when preparing for this tournament… the boys don’t mind because there is no success without sacrifice.”
Despite their training difficulties, Vusoniyasi commended his players for their unwavering commitment and hard work, emphasizing their focus on improvement and their determination to overcome obstacles. Reflecting on the narrow defeat to Nabua, he expressed pride in the team’s performance against a strong opponent, reaffirming their resilience.
This situation is reminiscent of the challenges faced by other local rugby teams, such as the Nasinu Reds, who also struggle with limited training time and resources but continue to pursue their goals with ambition. The Nasinu Reds, like the Nasinu Rugby Club, showcase a determined spirit in the face of adversity, which is a common theme in grassroots sports.
The dedication displayed by these teams highlights the true essence of rugby at a community level, where players often have to balance various responsibilities in their lives while striving for excellence on the field. Their stories serve as an inspiration, as they work together not only to improve their skills but also to foster a sense of teamwork and strength within their communities.
