The Fiji Bitter Malake 7s tournament commenced yesterday in its third edition, drawing 64 teams to Narauyaba Ground in Rakiraki for three days of competitive rugby.
Tournament president Isoa Tute highlighted that the event not only promotes rugby but also aids in the development of Malake Village. “We have 32 men’s teams, 24 under-21 teams, and 8 women’s teams from various regions of Fiji, including Ra,” Tute stated.
This tournament showcases the skills of the Malake Village team and serves as a significant fundraising initiative for local projects. Of the funds collected, two-thirds will be allocated for village development, while the remaining one-third will help support the Malake 7s team in participating in other local competitions.
“Our priority projects include renovating the church and building a gym for the village,” Tute noted.
The Malake 7s committee has set a five-year fundraising strategy to ensure that the tournament continues to bolster both rugby and the community’s advancement.
